The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Business Seminars program has scheduled two seminars the first week of March.
"Creating and Managing Teams," led by Dawn O. Braithwaite, professor of communication studies at UNL, will be from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 1 at the Ferguson Center, 700 S. 16th St. "Managing Multiple Demands," led by Janet Walker, president of Organization Performance Specialist Inc. and corporate manager of performance solutions for Valmont Industries Inc., will be from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 7 at Gallup University, 1001 Gallup Drive, Omaha. Registration deadlines are Feb. 27 for Braithwaite's seminar and Feb. 28 for Walker's.
Braithwaite will discuss how communicating in groups and teams plays a significant role in today's business environment. She will describe the organizational conditions that foster teamwork, why people resist working in teams and how to overcome that resistance, how to apply team communication concepts to real teams, and how team member roles and leadership are developed. Braithwaite is the author of three books and dozens of articles. She is past president of the Western States Communication Association and director of the Research Board National Communication Association.
Walker's seminar is designed to help managers learn skills to help them become "go-to" persons and people to be relied on to get the job done. "The pressure we feel when trying to manage the multiple demands placed upon us can come from multiple sources," Walker said. She is president of the Omaha Organization Development Network, and holds adjunct professor positions at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Nebraska Methodist College.
This seminar can count toward completion of a UNL Business Seminars Management Development Certificate. Information on the three levels of certificates offered is available by telephone and on the Web site. Participation in the certificate program is not a requirement to attend this seminar.
