Morris Schneider, retired professor and associate dean of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering, will receive the Doc Elliott Award at the All-University Honors Convocation April 22 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

Sponsored by the Nebraska Alumni Association, the Doc Elliott Award is presented annually to a retired faculty or staff member whose caring has made a difference in the lives of alumni and who has gone beyond traditional expectations at UNL. It is named in memory of Curtis Elliott, retired College of Business Administration professor known by his students as Doc.

Schneider, a 1951 education and 1959 mechanical engineering graduate, served UNL as a faculty member and administrator in the College of Engineering for more than 40 years, retiring in 1993. He was instrumental in starting the Industrial and Management Systems Engineering Department, serving as its first chair from 1970 to 1986 and spearheading the creation of graduate programs in industrial engineering and manufacturing systems engineering. He was associate dean of the college from 1986 to 1993, also serving as interim dean during a part of that period.

Today, Schneider continues to volunteer his time to teach classes and assists in the dean's office with graduation checks. He advises and mentors engineering students and assists with recruitment efforts. He has established two endowed scholarships for mechanical and industrial engineering students.

Nebraska Alumni Association programs are developed in support of UNL and funded by member dues and corporate partnerships. The Nebraska Alumni Association )www.huskeralum.com) is an independent organization that receives no state or tuition dollars.
