Following suspension of activities April 20 during a bomb threat at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln that subsequently was determined to be false, the dean of the College of Engineering has canceled the remainder of the college's E-Week Open House activities.
"The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering regrets the suspension of Friday's E-Week Open House," said David Allen, dean of the college. "We appreciate everyone's cooperation in evacuating the buildings in a prompt matter. The Lincoln Fire Department extensively searched Othmer Hall, Walter Scott Engineering Center, and Nebraska Hall and concluded the bomb threat was false.
"We have made the difficult decision to not reschedule the open house," Allen said. "Our students' consensus is that rescheduling this event would interfere with class schedules and studying for finals. We appreciate everyone's support of E-Week and are encouraged by the records set in attendance and student participation in the research fair. We hope for your continued support of E-Week in 2008."
A tradition since 1913, E-Week recognizes and rewards engineers' and engineering students' accomplishments. The free E-Week open house includes hands-on activities for children, information sessions for high school students, interactive lab demonstrations and a research fair.
