Shaun Nienhueser, a 2003 graduate of Sidney High School, was the winner of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's 2007 Architectural Engineering Alumni Award for Undergraduate Achievement.
The honor is bestowed on an outstanding senior and is based on student involvement, academic achievement and professional development. Nienhueser graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering and retained a 3.72 grade point average. He was the student president of the Omaha chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. He was a member of several student organizations including Emerging Green Builders, Golden Key International Honor Society and the Architectural Engineering Institute. He has held an internship in mechanical engineering with HDR since May 2006.
Nienhueser said he plans to pursue his master's in architectural engineering at the UNL Charles W. Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction.
The Durham School is a part of the UNL College of Engineering. Based at the Peter Kiewit Institute in Omaha, it is the only program in the nation that combines architectural engineering, construction engineering and construction management under one school, giving students a comprehensive building system education. Courses are offered on the UNL campus and at the Peter Kiewit Institute in Omaha.
