National Semiconductor's Halla to lecture at UNL Oct. 12

Brian Halla, chief executive officer and chairman of National Semiconductor Corp., will present a talk, "Technology's Impact on Business and Society: Is the U.S. Falling Behind?" The event, sponsored by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's J.D. Edwards Honors Program in Computer Science and Management, is 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at in the Kauffman Center, 15th and U streets in Lincoln. Attendance is free and open to the public.
Halla is an electrical engineering alumnus of UNL. He has served as CEO of National Semiconductor since 1996.
Capitalizing on National Semiconductor's strength in energy-efficient, high-performance analog technology, leading-edge process technologies and world class manufacturing capabilities, Halla has sharpened the company's strategic focus to serve major market segments including wireless handsets, displays, communications infrastructure, medical, automotive, industrial, and test and measurement applications. National's leading-edge standard linear products include power management circuits, display drivers, audio and operational amplifiers, interface products and data conversion solutions.
Halla serves on the board of directors of the Semiconductor Industry Association and served as its chairman in 2006. While SIA chairman, he was the industry's lead spokesperson on issues related to U.S. technology leadership and competitiveness.
Halla has previous experience at Intel Corp. where he was director of marketing microcomputers. He was manager of applications engineering at Control Data Corp. and was executive vice president of products for LSI Logic Corp. He is on the board of Cisco Systems Inc., the IEEE Noyce Award Committee and the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. He also serves on the engineering college advisory boards at UNL and the University of California, Berkeley.
