The Nebraska Art Association will present two free, entertainment-packed events during Winter Escape weekend Dec. 7-8 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery.
During December's First Friday reception, 5-7 p.m. Dec. 7, the University Chamber Singers, directed by Therees Hibbard of the UNL School of Music, will fill the Great Hall with their beautiful voices. Last year a crowd of 500 visitors enjoyed the group's moving performance. Juggler Renee Cosby will also perform throughout the evening amid whimsical decorations.
On Saturday, the String Beans, a trio that delights children with their zany tunes, returns for a winter concert in the Sheldon auditorium beginning at 1 p.m. Then at 2 p.m. the Suzuki Strings will fill the Great Hall with joyful music.
At both events, visitors will enjoy refreshments provided by the NAA, Sheldon's dedicated support group.
Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery houses a permanent collection of more than 12,000 objects focusing on American art. Exhibitions on view during Winter Escape are: "Sheldon Survey: An Invitational," "American Narratives" and "Daily Rituals: Seasonal Celebrations: Photographs by Graciela Iturbide."
The museum, 12th and R streets on the UNL City Campus, is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For information or to arrange a tour, call (402) 472-2461.
