More than 250 undergraduate women from around the country will gather at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Feb. 8-10 for the 10th annual Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Math. The conference provides outstanding undergraduate students the opportunity to showcase their research projects and meet other women who share their interest in the mathematical sciences.
In addition to attending presentations and a poster session, conference participants can learn about life in graduate school from the perspective of current women graduate students representing math departments from across the country.
Plenary session speakers include three conference alumnae -- Katherine Bartley (2000 and 2001, Ph.D. UNL 2006), now with the National Security Agency; Angela Desai (2000, Ph.D. Maryland 2006), now an assistant professor of mathematics at the University of Montevallo in Alabama; and Cornelia Yeun (2001, Ph.D. Michigan 2006), now an assistant professor of mathematics at the State University of New York-Potsdam.
Panel discussion participants will include Srisuda Holay, a database analyst at National Research Corp.; Deborah Lockhart, executive officer, Division of Mathematical Sciences, National Science Foundation; Kathleen O'Hara, associate director, Marketing Research Services Inc.; Jennifer Quinn, professor of mathematics, University of Washington; Amber Rinehart, fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries; and Ulrica Wilson, assistant professor of mathematics, Morehouse College.
Funding for the conference is provided by the National Science Foundation and the National Security Agency. A complete schedule is available online at www.math.unl.edu/~ncuwm/10thAnnual.
