'Art Farm@Sheldon' events set Feb. 29, March 1

Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln City Campus will host events Feb. 29 and March 1 in conjunction with the exhibition "Art Farm @ Sheldon." Martin Hogue, an assistant professor at the Syracuse University School of Architecture, will present a lecture titled "Technique: Landscape: Site" at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 29. The talk is presented by the UNL's College of Architecture in its Hyde Lecture Series.

At 6 p.m. Feb. 29, Potter-Belmar Labs will stage an audience-participatory live video/sound performance titled "Fortune." Artists Leslie Raymond and Jason Jay Stevens, who compose Potter-Belmar Labs, have been collaborating, experimenting and performing together since 1999. The San Antonio-based duo will present an evening of "Improvised Cinema," a unique multimedia experience. They will augment the performance with a program of their award-winning video shorts, and a discussion about their work and the broader "new media" and "live cinema" art scenes.

A third event will be a panel discussion titled "Art / Landscape / Architecture" at 2 p.m. March 1. Jeff Day, an associate professor of architecture at UNL, will moderate the discussion with architects, landscape architects and artists about issues revolving around Art Farm. Panelists include Matthew Coolidge (Center for Land Use Interpretation, Los Angeles), Ed Dadey (founder, Art Farm), Hogue, Patricia Morgado (assistant professor, UNL College of Architecture), Raymond (also an assistant professor, University of Texas at San Antonio, Department of Art and Art History) and Stevens.

All events will be in Sheldon's Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium and are free and open to the public.

"Art Farm@Sheldon," on view through April 27, is an exhibition focusing on architectural design proposals for Art Farm, a nonprofit art residency site near Marquette, Neb. Work on display includes architectural models, images and drawings as well as installations by artists associated with Art Farm. The exhibition includes the Red Shed Video Lounge, a building from Art Farm displaying new media work by former Art Farm residents. The exhibition is a collaboration between Min | Day, an architectural firm, and FACT, a student-staffed design lab.

Sheldon Art Gallery, 12th and R streets on the UNL City Campus, is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday.
