Global economy is topic of March 4 lecture at UNL

Globalization and economics expert Matthew Slaughter will speak March 4 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
A professor of international economics at Dartmouth University and former member of the President's Council of Economic Advisors, Slaughter will discuss, "A New Deal for the Global Economy?" at 11 a.m. in the Ethel S. Abbot Auditorium in Sheldon Art Gallery, 12th and R streets. The lecture is free and open to the public.
From 2005 to 2007, Slaughter held the international portfolio on the President's Council. In this position, he advised the president and his cabinet on issues including international trade and investment, currency and energy markets, and the competitiveness of the U.S. economy. Most recently, his focus has centered on the global operations of multinational firms and how they effectively manage across cultural and language barriers. His columns on Chinese trade and currency have appeared in the Wall Street Journal.
Slaughter is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, an academic adviser to the McKinsey Global Institute, a member of the academic advisory boards of the International Tax Policy Forum and the Tuck Center for Private Equity, and the senior associate director of the Tuck Center for International Business.
