"Life Before Electricity"

The Kruger Collection at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will open its 2008-2009 exhibition, "Technology's Impact on Design," March 28 in Architecture Hall-West, 10th and R streets on UNL's City Campus.

This exhibition explores how technology changes material culture from handcrafted, small-scale products to mass-produced, machine-made factory goods. Innovations in technology, materials and design feed the ever-changing taste of consumer culture, transforming the household and the way people interact with their environment. The exhibition will be on view through March 13, 2009.

The Kruger Collection will hold a gallery opening March 28 following a 4 p.m. address by Constance Adams, principal/chief architect of Synthesis Int'l USA of Houston. Adams, a specialist in high-performance architecture and design, including architecture for human space flight, will speak at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center, 313 N. 13th St. In conjunction with the exhibition opening, Volume 8 of In.Form, a journal of architecture, design and material culture, will be available for purchase.

The exhibit and Adams' lecture are free and open to the public.

The Kruger Collection ( http://krugercollection.unl.edu) was founded in 1997 with the donation of Eloise Kruger's 20,000-piece collection of 1-to-12 scale miniatures. Kruger began assembling her collection in the late 1930s and it includes the work of top miniature artists, including Eric Pearson, Eugene Kupjack, Bob Carlisle, Warren Dick, Mell Prescott and Betty Valentine.

The Kruger Gallery is on the first floor of Architecture Hall-West. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment. The gallery is closed university holidays. For more information or to schedule a tour, contact DiAnna Hemsath, curator, at (402)-472-3560 or by e-mail.
