The Friends of the Center for Great Plains Studies will present the fourth annual Great Plains Invitational Art Show and Sale at the Great Plains Art Museum May 2 through 11. Visitors will be able to view the exhibitions and meet the participating artists at the free public reception on 5-8 p.m. May 2 at the museum, 1155 Q St.

Participating artists include painters Michael Albrechtsen (the Great Plains Art Museum's 2008 Elizabeth Rubendall artist-in-residence), Wendy Hall, Raymond Knaub, Gerry Metz, Andrew Peters, James Rey and Todd A. Williams; and sculptors Dan Garrett, Cammie Lundeen, George Lundeen, Del Pettigrew, Martha Pettigrew and Gail Sundell.

"The Invitational Show and Sale is a wonderful opportunity for patrons, gallery owners, collectors, and art enthusiasts to meet with artists and view some of finest work celebrating the Great Plains region," said James Hewitt, president of the Friends of the Center for Great Plains Studies. "Visitors have the opportunity to add to their personal collections while supporting the growth of the Great Plains Art Museum as well."

A portion of the sales will be used for acquisition of artwork for the museum's permanent collection.

"The Center's Friends have been very active in support of the Great Plains Art Museum," said James Stubbendieck, director of the Center for Great Plains Studies. "The group's enthusiasm and their careful selection of artists has always made this a fun event for patrons and very beneficial for the museum."

The Friends of the Center for Great Plains Studies was established to promote the educational scholarly and cultural programs of the center for Great Plains Studies. More than 60 artworks have entered the Great Plains Art Museum's permanent collection through gifts of the Friends. The Great Plains Art Museum, is open to the public 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1:30-5 p.m. Sundays (closed Mondays, holiday weekends and between exhibitions).
