Expand your mind (like the stretchy putty you'll learn to make) at E-Week Open House, April 25 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering.
The theme of this year's event, set by UNL engineering students, is "Sustaining the World." A schedule of events, with pre-registration for some activities, is listed at www.engineering.unl.edu.
Engineering dean David Allen encourages current and future students and their families, faculty, alumni and employers to explore how engineers help design our homes, technology and the myriad advances that support and enhance our existence.
This year's E-Week guest speaker is Jeff Zvolanek, co-founder and president of Industrial Maid LLC in Cortland, which manufactures air filtration and ventilation products for healthier work environments. Zvolanek, a 1986 UNL graduate with a B.S. in industrial engineering, is also an entrepreneur with investment and gaming enterprises in the southwestern United States. His presentation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. in Room 106 of Othmer Hall, 17th and Vine streets.
The E-Week Open House will offer fun and interesting demonstrations, competitions and displays, said associate dean Stephanie Adams. She noted a variety of senior project presentations, (check the Web for specific details and times):
* Street redesigns for the city of Lincoln, by civil engineering students
* Improved hospital patient flow, by industrial engineering students
* Wireless media transmissions, by computer engineering students
The UNL College of Engineering (http://engineering.unl.edu), with programs in Lincoln and Omaha, is Nebraska's only accredited engineering school. UNL confers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in the areas of architectural engineering, biological systems engineering, chemical and biomolecular engineering, civil engineering, computer science & engineering, computer and electronics engineering, construction management, construction systems, electrical engineering, engineering mechanics, industrial and management systems, and mechanical engineering.
