Winners announced in entrepreneurship contest

Lincoln, Neb., April 18th, 2008 —

The Nebraska Center for Entrepreneurship and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business Administration have announced winners for the 21st-annual New Ventures World Competition held April 10-12 at the Embassy Suites hotel.

Each of the 24 competing graduate and undergraduate teams was comprised of students who wrote business plans under faculty supervision for course credit. The business plans were for a start-up or early-stage venture.

Local entrepreneurs and professional service providers in the Lincoln community judged both the written plans and the oral presentations.

Following is a list of the winning teams and their prize money.

Graduate Division: 1, Romanov Caviar, Queens School of Business, Kingston, Ontario ($7,000); 2, Remedium Technologies, University of Maryland ($3,000); 3, Hitchsters, University of Michigan ($1,500; honorable mention, MagiCare, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China ($1,000).

Undergraduate Division: 1, BSApp, Syracuse University ($4,000); 2, Roundscape, UNL ($2,000); 3, J&J Solutions, University of Iowa ($1,000); honorable mention, VidFlips, University of Michigan ($500).

The goal of New Ventures World Competition is to improve the chances of entrepreneurial success by exposing student competitors to quality feedback, investment opportunities and a chance to network with aspiring founders of competitive and innovative entrepreneurial enterprises.
