The Nebraska Alumni Association will present the Alumni Family Tree Award to the Seberg family during the All-University Celebration and Salute to Alumni Achievement May 9 at the Nebraska Champions Club.
The Alumni Family Tree Award honors a family with a tradition of attending the University of Nebraska. The recipient family must include a minimum of three generations of graduates. At least two of the family members must have records of outstanding service to the university, the alumni association, their community or their profession.
Lewis A. and Anna F. Seberg of Elwood did not graduate from high school but they believed in the value of a university education for their sons. The eldest stayed in Elwood and worked for his father, but his three younger brothers graduated from NU and became successful dentists who jointly received the Distinguished Service Award from the UNMC College of Dentistry in 1982.
G. Herbert Seberg was instrumental in getting the state's 1975 fluoridation law passed and received many local, state and national honors for his efforts. John R. Seberg was responsible for initiating the dental hygiene program and the dental assisting and dental laboratory programs at Central Community College in Hastings. J.L. Seberg served in the Army Dental Corps during World War II in Europe under Gen. George Patton and received the Bronze Star. In the last 70 years, 13 members of the Seberg family have graduated from the University of Nebraska, with two to graduate in the next three years.
Reservations for the All-University Celebration and Salute to Alumni Achievement may be made by calling the Nebraska Alumni Association, (888) 353-1874 or (402) 472-4250. The cost is $25 per person and the deadline for registrations is April 30.
