WHERE: Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th and R Streets
The Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln invites families to an art-making event 5-7 p.m. July 11.
A variety of fun painting activities will involve youngsters and adults in making and learning about art. This free event sponsored by the Sheldon Art Association will be in conjunction with the reinstallation of the Ralph Albert Blakelock (1847-1919) paintings in the permanent collection galleries.
Artists directing the activities include Margaret Berry, Liz Shea-McCoy and Michael Burton as well as Sheldon docents Linda Benton, Jeri Brainard and Peg Pelter. The Nebraska Repertory Theater will present a make-and-take mask craft project. There will be snacks, refreshments and a prize drawing.
The Blakelock paintings reveal the artist's proto-modern vision that inspired numerous 20th-century artists.
Sheldon Museum of Art houses a permanent collection of more than 12,000 objects focusing on American art. The museum, 12th and R streets on the UNL City Campus, is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For information or to arrange a tour, call (402) 472-2461.
