UNL records highest enrollment in decade

With 23,573 students this fall, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is recording its highest enrollment in a decade.

Other highlights from the official 2008 UNL census reported today from the University of Nebraska Board of Regents:

- Total enrollment for fall 2008 is up 2.6 percent, or 600 students, over last year.

- New student enrollment increased for the fourth straight year.

- Since 2004, UNL has increased the size of its new student class by 1,200.

- The average ACT composite score for this year's incoming freshmen is 25.03 -- the highest ACT ever for incoming freshmen.

- For the first time ever, five new freshmen with perfect ACT or SAT scores enrolled at UNL.

- First-time transfer students increased 100 students to a total of 957 new transfers, up 11.7 percent over 2007.

- The UNL college showing the highest percentage increase in new students is Agriculture and Natural Resources, which increased 12.9 percent in enrollment from 2007.

- The second highest enrollment increase among UNL colleges was Education and Human Sciences, with a 5.1 percent increase over last year's enrollment

- UNL saw increases in all enrollment sectors: total graduate (increase of 82 students or 1.9 percent over last year); and professional (increase of 45 students, or 9 percent over last year).

- The fall semester registrations are reported annually to the provost of the University of Nebraska system, based on six-day census figures from the campus Institutional Research and Planning offices. For more details, see www.nebraska.edu.
