Lincoln, Neb., September 17th, 2008 —

"Journals of the Days," an exhibition that explores the artistic process of landscape painter Keith Jacobshagen, opens at Sheldon Museum of Art Oct. 7 and will be on view through Nov. 30.

Organized by the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum in celebration of its 30th anniversary, the exhibition is composed of 20 reproduced images from Jacobshagen's journals. These pages include drawings, paintings and written entries about the landscape and his work. The exhibitions journal images are supplemented with paintings by the artist from private collections.

Jacobshagen will discuss his work and the exhibition at a Sheldon Sunday presentation on Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. Both the exhibition and presentation are free and open to the public.

A native of Wichita, Kan., Jacobshagen has been a faculty member in Art and Art History at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 1968. Jacobshagen's work has been shown in galleries and museums throughout the United States. He has had 63 one-person exhibitions, including shows in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Ted Kooser said of Jabobshagen's work, "Some of the strongest art comes from close observation of the world. Keith Jacobshagens notebooks, which are, of course, also journals, are a fine example of an artist who is devoted to paying attention, and what Keith has seen over many years of looking closely at landscapes has informed his studio paintings."

"Journals of the Days" and the artist talk at Sheldon are supported by Kiechel Fine Art.

The Sheldon, located at 12th and R Streets on the UNL City Campus, is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For information or to arrange a tour, please call (402) 472-2461.
