Black Male Empowerment Summit is March 28 at UNL

Lincoln, Neb., March 10th, 2009 —

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host the seventh Black Male Empowerment Summit March 28 from noon to 6 p.m. The summit, with the theme, "Me Against the World," will address the issues and challenges associated with being a Black male in America. Workshops will educate African-American men and others in business, youth development, relationship building, mentoring, technology, academic achievement, self-determination and community development.

The inspiring program will address issues that are affecting African-American men. Sessions are designed to foster student retention and graduation, promote student development, enhance empowerment and strengthen community identity.

Organizers from the offices of Admissions and Undergraduate Studies and Academic Support and Intercultural Services expect that several hundred people will attend. Registration is at the Web site. Cost is $5 for high school and college students, and $10 for others. Registration fees will be waived for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch at their high school. Transportation options are offered to residents in the Omaha area.
