Two University of Nebraska-Lincoln alumni will receive the Nebraska Alumni Association's Young Alumni Award May 8 at the All-University Celebration and Salute to Alumni Achievement at the Nebraska Champions Club. The award is given annually to NU alumni who have provided exceptional service to the university through volunteer efforts or have distinguished themselves in their career or community.

The 2009 recipients are:

Anthony Baumgart, campus visit coordinator for the UNL College of Engineering. His commitment to student recruiting began as an undergrad when he enjoyed sharing his experiences with prospective high school students and parents and was selected as an Engineering Ambassador. In this role he helped plan and implement Red Letter Days tours, Big Red Roadshow booths and activities, and Discover Engineering Days activities. As a grad student, he organized the college's Big Red Roadshow booth in South Sioux City. A native of Norfolk, Baumgart received his bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering from UNL in 2006 and 2008. He continues to work with prospective students through campus visits, university admissions events and engineering-specific programs.

Candace Cain, English, speech and theater teacher and speech and drama coach at Burwell High School since 2006. The recipient of degrees from UNL in 2002 and 2008, she previously taught at Columbus Public Schools. During her eight years of coaching speech and drama, Cain's teams have won numerous conference and district titles. She has coached six National Forensic League Academic All-Americans and holds a Diamond Key Coaching Award from NFL. Cain's recent honors include being named 2007 winner of the Dale E. Black Outstanding Young Teacher of the Year in Speech and Theater and the 2008 Nebraska Daughters of the American Revolution Outstanding Junior.
