This year's awards include two new professorships, the Susan J. Rosowski Associate Professorship, and the Aaron Douglas or John E. Weaver Professorship for Teaching Excellence.

The Rosowski professorship recognizes faculty at the associate professor level who have achieved distinguished records of scholarship or creative activity and who show exceptional promise for future excellence. The professorship is named for the long-time professor of English at UNL who died of cancer in 2004.

The Douglas or Weaver professorship is awarded to faculty holding the full professor rank who demonstrate sustained and extraordinary levels of teaching excellence and national visibility for instructional activities and/or practice. Honored faculty choose their designation and either Douglas or Weaver professors.

Douglas (1899-1979) was the first African American to earn a degree in art from NU and is considered a pre-eminent artist of the Harlem Renaissance movement. Weaver (1884-1956) was a leading expert on grasses, both as natural populations and as crops. He was an NU faculty member from 1915 to 1952.
