Outstanding International Alumnus Announced

Lincoln, Neb., April 28th, 2009 —

Ram Goel, a native of India, president of an engineering consulting firm and 1971 University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate, is the winner of the Nebraska Alumni Association's 2009 Outstanding International Alumnus Award. The award will be presented May 8 at the All-University Celebration and Salute to Alumni Achievement.

Goel is president of Soney FM LLC, an engineering company in Tampa, Fla. A professional engineer in New York, Utah, California, Georgia, South Carolina, Michigan, Nevada and Florida, he has 40 years of professional engineering work experience on hydroelectric projects, nuclear power plants, oil refineries, bridges, buildings, land developments and more. Goel is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and recipient of the 2006 Hind Rattan (Jewel of India) Award for NRIs (non-resident Indians) for Outstanding Services, Achievements and Contributions.

The award was established in fall 2006 to honor an alumnus who was a non-U.S. citizen while attending UNL and who has achieved national or international prominence through efforts in education, sciences, technology, agriculture, the arts, business, humanities, government or other endeavors.
