Brightfelt to receive Alumni Distinguished Service Award

A founder of Dade Behring Inc. will be honored with the Nebraska Alumni Association's Distinguished Service Award May 8 during the All-University Celebration and Salute to Alumni Achievement at the Nebraska Champions Club.
Robert W. Brightfelt of Lake Forest, Ill., retired as a group president of Dade Behring in 2002, after serving more than 36 years in the health care industry, including 29 years with the DuPont Co. He was a founder and member of the board of directors of Dade Behring, a $1.8 billion global clinical diagnostics company which develops, manufactures, sells and services equipment and test reagents for more than 30,000 hospital laboratories. He continues to work part time as a consultant in the health care industry and as a member of the Chicago Architecture Foundation Auxiliary Board, chair of the Dean's Advisory Board of the UNL College of Engineering and a trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation.
A native of Erie, Pa., Brightfelt received his bachelor's and master's degrees with distinction in mechanical engineering from the University of Nebraska in 1965 and 1967.
