WHEN: Friday, Jul. 10, 2009
WHERE: Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th and R Streets
The Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln invites families to make art together July 10 during Sheldon's Family Fun Event. The event will be 5 to 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
There will be three art-making areas located inside the museum where local artists will assist children in creating their own drawings, sculptures and prints.
The artists will be: Nancy Childs, curriculum specialist in visual art for Lincoln Public Schools, who will help children make Styrofoam prints; Resa Ortiz, art specialist at Fredstrom Elementary, who will help children create three-dimensional drawings; and Susan Otte, art specialist at Zeman Elementary, who will assist with making and coloring clay sculptures.
The art techniques will reflect those used by the artists featured in Sheldon's current exhibitions, "Play's the Thing: The Painting and Objects of Jun Kaneko" and "James McNeill Whistler: 40 Years of Printmaking."
When children have completed their art, families can explore Sheldon's galleries and select favorite paintings and sculptures. The homemade art can then be taken home and be shared with family and friends.
All materials will be provided, but visitors should come in appropriate art-making clothes (feel free to bring a smock if you have one). Refreshments will also be available.
