Lincoln, Neb., September 21st, 2009 —

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's University Program Council will sponsor an outdoor concert with The Eli Young Band and Aaron Watson 8 p.m. to midnight Sept. 24 on the East Campus Mall.

This special Homecoming concert is co-sponsored with ASUN Student Government, the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and 96KX. This event is free and open to all UNL students. Shuttles will provide transportation to and from City Campus. In case of rain, the concert will be moved to the Nebraska State Fair Park Open Air Auditorium.

A country group sensation, The Eli Young Band has a sound all of its own. Its first single, "When it Rains," was on the Billboard Country Single Chart for more than 30 weeks. The band was not even signed to a label and became a huge feature act. The group includes four members with lead singer Mike Eli heading vocals that capture the modern sound of country music. With an Academy of Country Music Award nomination for Top New Vocal Group or Duo, this group has received nods from experts in the country music business.

Accompanying The Eli Young Band will be fellow country musician Aaron Watson. This native Texan is not a newcomer to country music. With an eighth album under his belt, Watson's greatest strength is singing great American country music that paints a picture in the listener's mind.

The University Program Council is a volunteer student organization designed to address the co-curricular, social, recreational, cultural and educational needs of the campus. The University Program Council acts as the executive body responsible for the implementation of programs and activities funded by University Programs and Facilities Fees.
