The University Program Council and Campus Night Life at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Nebraska Writers Collective will co-sponsor slam poet Rachel McKibbens at 9 p.m. Oct. 9 in the Nebraska Union Crib, 1400 R St.

This event will be free for UNL students with a valid N-Card and $3 for public, faculty and staff.

Devotion to the craft sets Rachel McKibbens apart from the ordinary poet. She is the master of the art form and brings a stage life to her written works and has a resume to back it up. She is the 2009 Women of the World of poetry slam champion, eight-time National Poertry Slam team member, three-time NPS finalist and a 2007 New York Foundation for the Arts poetry fellow and Pushcart nominee. She has shared the stage with Nikki Giocanni, Kanye West, Billy Collins and Ellyn Maybe. She appeared twice on HBO's "Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry" and has performed throughout the United States. McKibben's performances demonstrate her gift of bringing to life the words that comprise her work. For more information, visit www.unl.edu/upc or www.rachelmckibbens.com.
