Thirty-three graduate students from a variety of disciplines were recognized this month for receiving some of the most prestigious fellowships offered by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Recipients of the Presidential, Fling and Othmer fellowships were awarded medals and recognized in a ceremony at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. Only about 12 percent of fellowship applicants receive awards.
Presidential Fellowships are for outstanding doctoral students in the last year of their program. Recipients receive a stipend of $24,000 and agree not to work so they can concentrate on completion of their degree.
Fling Fellowships provide outstanding masters and doctoral students at any stage of their program of study a stipend of $20,000. Recipients accept the stipend in lieu of working, so they can concentrate on their academic work.
Othmer Fellowships assist in recruiting exceptional scholars who seek a terminal degree. Recipients are awarded an assistantship at the highest level offered by their department, plus an additional $8,000 for three years, given continued excellent progress toward the degree.
