Phi Beta Kappa initiates 18 new members at UNL

Lincoln, Neb., December 17th, 2009 —

Eighteen University of Nebraska-Lincoln students were initiated Dec. 10 into membership in Phi Beta Kappa.

Phi Beta Kappa is the nation's oldest academic honor society, recognizing and encouraging a commitment to excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. The students who received Phi Beta Kappa keys are from the August and December graduating classes.

Following is a list by hometown of the new members with their majors and the names of their parents.

NEBRASKA

Beemer: Mark Feller, psychology, John and Beth Ann Feller.

Bellevue: Joseph F. Smith Jr., Spanish and biological sciences, Joseph F. Sr. and Tammy L. Smith.

Hampton: Nicole Hutsell, economics and international studies, David and Sheryl Hutsell.

Lincoln: Andrew Brienzo, political science, Michael and Nancy Brienzo, spouse is Catherine Brienzo; Rachel K. Jones, anthropology and international studies, Bruce Jones and Jan Dial-Jones; Collin Kessner, Spanish and international business, Michael Kessner of Lincoln and Martha Singleton of Montgomery, Texas; Alexandria Shasteen, political science and history, Rolf Shasteen of Lincoln and Julie Shasteen of Austin, Texas; Logan Spackman, English and film studies, Robert and Lynn Spackman.
