Three University of Nebraska-Lincoln advertising students received $1,000 American Advertising Federation of Lincoln scholarships for 2009.

Senior Andrew Ciaccio of Omaha received the Warren Joyce Ayres Scholarship, junior Sara Leimbach of LaVista received the Pam Holloway-Eiche Scholarship and junior Joan Wortman of Lincoln received the Cultural Diversity Scholarship.

Each year, AAF Lincoln recognizes future leaders in the advertising industry by offering three $1,000 scholarships. The UNL students competed with applicants from across the state. All full-time Nebraska students who are enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing studies in advertising, marketing, public relations, communication or graphic design were eligible to apply.

Amy Struthers, advertising sequence head and assistant professor said, "We are pleased that all three AAF Lincoln scholarships were awarded to our advertising majors. It's an indication of the high quality of our students and the passion these winners have demonstrated for their chosen career field."

The Joyce Ayres Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Warren Joyce Ayres, president and founder of Ayres & Associates. Ayres also founded the Lincoln Admenis Gridiron in 1939, which became the Advertising Federation of Lincoln in 1951.

The Pam Holloway-Eiche Scholarship is a tribute to Pam Holloway-Eiche, vice president of Ayres & Associates. She founded the student Ad Club at UNL in 1977 and was active in establishing other student ad clubs across the country.

The Cultural Diversity Scholarship was established to encourage minority students to continue their education in advertising. It encourages people of all nationalities to pursue a career in the industry.

AAF Lincoln provides professionals and students many learning opportunities through educational programs, seminars and services. AAF Lincoln's mission is to promote greater effectiveness in the use of advertising and selling, to expand recognition of advertising as a profitable business tool and to cultivate a better understanding of the economic and social value of advertising to the consuming public.
