Lincoln, Neb., February 10th, 2010 —

Chicago area author and gardener Pam Duthie is the featured speaker at a free public lecture beginning at 2 p.m. March 7 in the Hardin Hall Auditorium at 33rd and Holdrege streets on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus [map].

The lecture, sponsored by the UNL Garden Friends, will include colorful photos and illustrations based on Duthie's "Continuous Color, The Easy U-Can Plan Way," a simple method to plan a garden starting with shrubs, conifers and small trees and adding perennial partner plants to create a garden with color in every season.

Duthie, the retired former owner of The Gifted Gardener landscape design and consulting company, specializes in continuous-color gardens. An enthusiastic lecturer, she is an instructor at Chicago Botanic Garden. Duthie's previous books, "Continuous Bloom," about the use of perennials in the garden, and "Continuous Color: Shrubs and Small Trees for the Continuous Bloom Garden," are best-sellers. She is working on a third book, "A Right Plant, Right Place Book for American Gardeners."

Founded in 1992, the UNL Garden Friends supports the botanical gardens and arboretum at UNL and serve as ambassadors for The Garden, creating in the people of Nebraska a sense of ownership and participation.
