Registration open for dozens of UNL Husker Spiritfest events

Lincoln, Neb., March 25th, 2010 —

Registration is under way for campus events planned as a part of Husker Spiritfest, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's annual spring homecoming weekend, April 15-18.

A variety of activities, including guided campus tours, lectures, luncheons, the formal dedication of the new Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, the Red-White Spring Game April 17 and other athletic contests are planned for the four-day celebration.

The registration deadline for many events is April 5. A registration form and complete schedule of all events is available on the Nebraska Alumni Association's Web site at http://huskeralum.org/events/alumniweekend. Some of the most popular activities include:

* Dining Hall Lunch, April 15-16, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Lunch at one of University Housing's newly remodeled, state-of-the-art dining halls. Cost for lunch is $7.80. Pre-registration is required.

* Campus Tour, April 15, 2:30 p.m.; April 16, 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Departs from the Wick Alumni Center, 1520 R St. Pre-registration is recommended. This event is free.

* Husker Athletic Tours, April 16, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Includes Tom and Nancy Osborne Complex, Hawks Championship Center and Memorial Stadium. Departs from West Stadium lobby. There is no cost to attend. Tour numbers are limited; pre-registration is recommended.

* Sheldon Museum of Art Tour, April 15, 1:30 p.m.; April 16, 1:30 p.m. No cost to attend. Pre-registration is recommended.

* Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Presentation: "Research at UNL," April 16, 3-4:30 p.m. Includes overview of significant research being conducted at Nebraska, from climate change and renewable energy, to childhood literacy and transportation safety. No cost to attend. Pre-registration is required.

In addition to the campus activities, six groups are planning reunions, including the class of 1960, Alumni of Color, Cather Hall/Custer House alumni, Love Memorial Hall alumnae, UNL Libraries former student employees and UNL Campus Recreation Center former employees. The Nebraska Alumni Association was founded in 1874 and serves the Lincoln campus of the University of Nebraska to promote connections, school spirit and the advancement of the university.
