One of the most successful extreme storm chasers in the world, the Discovery Channel's Reed Timmer, will appear at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on Feb. 24.

Timmer will speak in the Nebraska Union Auditorium, 14th and R streets, at 7:30 p.m. This event is free for UNL students with a valid NCard, $5 for all others.

Timmer has "hands-on" experience with a vast assortment of hazardous weather conditions and natural disasters. His extensive educational background in meteorology has made him one of the world's most respected experts in extreme weather forecasting, safety and survival. As a star on Discovery Channel's "Storm Chasers," he became the first person in history to record a high-definition video inside a tornado. This eight-episode series had a record 19 million viewers and is one of Discovery Channel's highest rated shows of all time.

The Dominator, Timmer's custom-made, tornado chasing vehicle will also be on display on the Nebraska Union Plaza 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 24.

Timmer's appearance is sponsored by UNL's University Program Council, a volunteer student organization designed to address the co-curricular, social, recreational, cultural and educational needs of the campus. UPC acts as the executive body responsible for the implementation of programs and activities funded by University Programs and Facilities Fees.
