A University of Nebraska-Lincoln junior, Cori Schwabe, has been selected for the Vance L. Stickell Student Internship Program through the American Advertising Federation. Schwabe is one of 15 students to have been selected from across the United States.

Schwabe will spend 10 weeks working at McCann Erickson this summer in New York City and will receive a stipend of $4,000 plus either a $1,500 scholarship or assistance with housing to help defray her living expenses.

Schwabe, who is studying advertising at the University of Westminster in London this spring, has held internships with Thought District and Jacht Club, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications student advertising agency. She has written for "Century 2012," a project for the Nebraska State Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Schwabe has held sales internships with University Directories, the Nebraska Athletic Marketing Department and has helped raise funds for the University of Nebraska Foundation.

Schwabe, of St. Joseph, Mo., will graduate in 2012. She is an active member of the UNL Ad Club, Pi Beta Phi sorority and Lincoln International Networking Community.

The Stickell internship program was established in 1989 in honor of Vance L. Stickell (1925-87), former executive vice president of marketing for the Los Angeles Times and a member of the Advertising Hall of Fame. During Stickell's 39-year career in advertising, he established himself nationally as a highly respected advertising practitioner and statesman. He led the Los Angeles Times to national prominence while pioneering industry-wide improvements that have had lasting impact in the advertising community.

The program commemorates Stickell's contributions to the industry, his high business standards and his dedication to advancing the interests of advertising. In addition, the program recognizes the contributions of Betty Lee Stickell to the nurturing and growth of the program since it inception. The program is intended to raise the awareness and understanding of advertising processes and business ethics among future advertising professionals.
