A collection of work by University of Nebraska-Lincoln textile and apparel design students will be on exhibit at the Robert Hillestad Gallery in the Home Economics Building on UNL's East Campus April 15-27.

On display will be experimental garments and other fiber works that incorporate original, crafted fabric that students create. The show will include one work from each student that has been completed through a collaboration of two classes, experimental apparel and textile design and inventing the crafted fabric taught collaboratively by professors Barbara Trout and Wendy Weiss this spring. Students designed the garments around several concepts, including "White on White," "Linear Projections" and "Protective Units." The techniques used to develop the fabric designs include silk scouring, machine made lace, trapunto, dye manipulation, felting, crochet and latch-hooking. A fashion film the class produced will play in the gallery to show work that is not on display.

Students will host a reception outside the galley from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 15. It is free and open to the public.

The Hillestad Gallery is part of the Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design in the UNL College of Education and Human Sciences. The gallery is on the second floor of the Home Economics Building on East Campus, on 35th Street north of East Campus Loop. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday and by appointment. Admission is free. Guest parking is available near the building and metered stalls are located in the Nebraska East Union lot.
