Samantha Rendon, a senior advertising and public relations major in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications, has been awarded the Allen Rosenshine Minority Educational and Training Fund internship.

BBDO, a leading advertising agency with U.S. offices in New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Minneapolis and San Francisco, will fund six internships for the summer of 2011. Rendon will receive a $4,000 stipend for a 10-week internship in account services in New York City.

The BBDO MET Fund earmarks academic scholarships and internships for minorities, women and individuals to encourage the pursuit of careers in advertising.

Allen Rosenshine, chairman of BBDO Worldwide, said, "As the population continues to become more diverse, our industry needs to become more diverse in order to communicate with consumers effectively. As one of the leading agencies, it is only appropriate that for these reasons BBDO take a proactive role in bringing greater diversity to our industry."

Rendon, of Tyler, Texas, will graduate in May. She has held internships in newsroom and advertising sales with MYTX CBS 19 in Tyler, and in marketing and event planning as Victoria's Secret PINK campus representative.

Rendon is a National Hispanic Scholar and is a member of the UNL honor society, the Academy of National Hispanic Scholars. The honor society is part of the National Hispanic Recognition Program. Rendon is a member of UNL's Young Life, Pre-Law Club and Chi Omega sorority.

Since its inception in 2000, the BBDO MET Fund has given out $420,000 to more than 1,240 individuals from 74 different schools. Rendon joins recipients from schools such as Cornell, Howard, Ithaca College, Michigan Sate, Morris Brown, NYU, Princeton, Rutgers, Texas A&M, UCLA, University of Georgia, University of Illinois, University of Minnesota and University of South Carolina among others.
