University Program Council and Campus NightLife are wasting no time beginning the semester with a record-setting number of events. On Sept. 16, at 5 p.m., University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Nebraska Union Plaza will be the setting for the Midwest Acoustic Fest, featuring three acoustic musicians, novelty games and activities, bringing the full festival experience to UNL. Free Pepsi products will be provided for refreshment. The event is free and open to UNL students and the public.
While all using acoustic guitars, each musician embodies a different style of music, ranging from soulful blues to subtle, country twang. Artists Jay Nash, Kyshona Armstrong and Steve Means promise something for all acoustic lovers.
East Coast native Jay Nash started gaining attention in the Los Angeles music scene. Nash has played more than 1,000 live shows and performed with names such as Counting Crows and Maroon 5. Kyshona Armstrong is a multi-talented musician who has dabbled in oboe, percussion, and piano before deciding on guitar to accompany her soulful voice and honest lyrics. Kyshona has been compared to Tracy Chapman, Diana Krall and Dionne Ferris. Steve Means is a self-sustaining modern artist who is a triple-threat songwriter, musician and performer. His funk-infused acoustic sound has drawn comparisons to everyone from Stevie Wonder and Marc Broussard to John Mayer. He has opened for Top 40 R&B artists T-Pain and Sean Kingston. All artist biographies and music can be found on Myspace or on iTunes.
The University Program Council is a student organization that provides diverse, educational and entertaining programs and events to enhance the UNL community.
