High school juniors and seniors, their parents and teachers will get an up-close look at opportunities and exciting careers in the field of chemistry on Oct. 15 when the University of Nebraska-Lincoln hosts its 11th annual Chemistry Day.
Guided tours of research labs, a panel discussion with current UNL chemistry undergraduate students and hands-on science demonstrations are all part of the day, among other events. An alumnus also will be on hand for a presentation about launching a career in chemistry.
Students can participate in Chemistry Quizbowl, a scavenger hunt and have the chance to win chemistry-related prizes and scholarships to study at UNL.
The event, sponsored by the Department of Chemistry, begins with breakfast and registration at 8:45 a.m. and runs through 3:30 p.m., when scholarship and prize winners will be announced. It will be held in Hamilton Hall on the UNL City Campus.
UNL students who are interested in becoming chemistry majors also are welcome to participate.
Registration for this event is free and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. For more information or to register, visit the department’s website, www.chem.unl.edu/chemday, or contact Peg Bergmeyer at 402-472-3514 or email.
