Juried student exhibit at Hillestad Textiles Gallery through Feb. 17

            Abby Dames of Waverly, Kendra Morgan of Blair and Erica Cardenas of Lexington were the award winners in the Student Biennial Juried Exhibition at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery.

            Dames won Best in Show in the wearable category for her design, titled "Ombre." Morgan won Best in Show in the non-wearable category for her design, "Color Blend Trio: Black and White." Cardenas received Honorable Mention for "Zipped."

            Marking UNL's entry into the Big Ten Conference, Elizabeth Bye, professor and department head of the apparel design program in the University of Minnesota Department of Design, Housing, and Apparel, was the juror for the exhibition. She selected 46 percent of the work entered to be in the exhibition and identified the three prize winners.

            Other students whose work was selected for the exhibition include Linsey Bode of Elgin; Katarine Dassie of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Abigail George of Blair; Lily Hershey, Crystal Hobson and Thomas Price of Lincoln; Kaitlyn Rathman of Omaha; Julia Wang of Milford; Yu Yang of Tianjin, China; and Chailey Young of Elkhorn.

            The selected designs are on display through Feb. 17 at the Hillestad Gallery on the second floor of the Home Economics Building, 35th Street north of East Campus Loop. The Hillestad Gallery is part of the Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design in the UNL College of Education and Human Sciences. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday and by appointment.
