Sheldon Summer Family Day features bikes, art, ice cream

Lincoln, Neb., July 16th, 2012 —

         The Sheldon Museum of Art welcomes families to ride their bikes to its annual Summer Family Day, from noon to 5 p.m. July 21. The museum, 12th and R streets on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln City Campus, will have art activities related to its current exhibitions, bike decorating, safety checks courtesy of Cycle Works and UNL Dairy Store ice cream.

            The event and museum admission are free and open to all.

         Teaching artist Heidi Bartlett will conduct activities for family members in "Turning Inside Out," an exhibition that explores the world of video art through works by Joan Jonas, Nam June Paik and Jennifer Steinkamp.

         Bicycle decorating and safety checks will be available to riders in conjunction with the exhibition, "The American Mountain Bicycle," from the bike collection of the Monkey Wrench.

         Sheldon Museum of Art houses a permanent collection of more than 12,000 objects focusing on American art. It is open free to the public during regular hours: Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.; closed Mondays.
