Sept. 11 remembrance events planned at UNL

WHERE: Nebraska Union, 14th and R Streets, and Nebraska East Union, Arbor and Center Drives

Lincoln, Neb., September 7th, 2012 —

            The ASUN student government at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is organizing several activities in remembrance of the events of Sept. 11, 2001. The events will take place over the course of next week with the largest being a remembrance ceremony held on Sept. 11.

            All events are at either the Nebraska Union, 14th and R streets, or the Nebraska East Union, Arbor and Center drives, and are open to the public.

            Schedule of events:

            Sunday, Sept. 9-Sunday, Sept. 16: Memorial Wall. There will be a memorial wall displaying pictures and stories in both Unions.

            Monday, Sept. 10-Tuesday, Sept. 11: Flags Covering the Green Space. Each flag placed in the ground on East and City Campuses will represent one fallen solider from Nebraska.

            Tuesday, Sept. 11: Remembrance Ceremony. The ceremony will take place in front of the Nebraska Union, 14th and R streets, from 8-9 p.m. The university color guard will start the event and will be followed by speakers including the Rev. Brian Kane of the Nebraska National Guard, Nebraska state senator and veteran Bob Krist of Omaha, and a representative of the UNL ROTC program. At the conclusion of the ceremony there will be a 21-gun salute.
