The Lied Center for Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln presents Gaelic Storm, the Celtic band made famous in the movie Titanic, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3. Tickets may be purchased at the Lied Center Ticket Office located at 301 N. 12th St. in Lincoln or online at www.liedcenter.org.

Gaelic Storm plays Celtic music that harkens back to the traditional music of Ireland, adding modern sounds and drawing influences from American rock and pop as well as music styles from around the world. A one-time Celtic pub band, they are now a champion in the Celtic/world music genre. Their compelling original songs and fresh arrangements are steeped in traditional melody and broaden the horizons of Celtic music. With catalog sales of more than 1 million, the group has now had three albums debut at number one on the Billboard World Albums Chart: 2008’s “What’s the Rumpus?,” 2010’s “Cabbage,” which remained parked in the top slot for three consecutive weeks, and 2012’s “Chicken Boxer.”

The group’s ability to deftly incorporate a rock sensibility into their sound affords them rare crossover appeal. In recent years, they’ve performed on the same bill with acts ranging from Zac Brown Band and the Goo Goo Dolls to Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett, at events as varied as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Milwaukee’s Summerfest.

A pre-show talk will be led by Lori McAlister, local Celtic music and history enthusiast and vice president of the St. David’s Welsh Society of Nebraska. The 7 p.m. talk is in the Lied Center's Steinhart Room.

The Lied Center’s 23rd season is supported by Friends of Lied, Ameritas and Union Bank. All events in the Lied Center are made possible entirely or in part by the Lied Performance Fund, which has been established in memory of Ernst F. Lied and his parents, Ernst M. and Ida K. Lied. The Nebraska Arts Council has supported the programs of this organization through its matching grants program funded by the Nebraska Legislature; the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
