The Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will exhibit the work of 26 Nebraska youths in "Celebration of Youth XIX: Exploding Boundaries" through Oct. 13. Items selected to be a part of the exhibition came from more than 3,000 entries in the clothing, home environment and quilt quest departments of the 2012 Nebraska State Fair.

The gallery, on the second floor of the Home Economics Building, 35th Street north of East Campus Loop, will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 5 for a First Friday event. The Friends of the Gallery will host this and future First Friday open evenings. The public is encouraged to come see the work of Nebraska's 4-H youth.

Youth chosen to be participants in this year's Celebration of Youth will be invited to participate in a day of workshops taught by faculty from the UNL Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design Department on Oct 13. Culminating the day, prior to a reception hosted in their honor by the Friends of the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery, each young artist will give a presentation about her or his work. The artists' talks and the reception will be open to the public at 5:30 p.m.

Jurors for the final selections for the gallery exhibition were: Sarah Traush Hoops, Juniata, clothing; Jane Marie, Hastings; Sue Rieber, Gibbon; and Jana Gibson (Wasem), Aurora, home environment; and Arlen Brown, Hastings, quilt quest.

The Hillestad Gallery is part of the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design in the UNL College of Education and Human Sciences.
