The Capitol Steps

The Lied Center for Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present the Capitol Steps, a comedy group, at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 12. Tickets may be purchased at the Lied Center Ticket Office, 301 N. 12th St., or at www.liedcenter.org.

This performance can proudly claim to be the only place in America where you will find the two candidates running for president singing show tunes onstage.  Founded by Congressional staffers, the group is celebrating its 30th year of existence while having recorded 32 albums. Its satiric wit puts the "mock" in Democracy! Former U.S. surgeon general C. Everett Koop issued a tongue in cheek warning: "The Capitol Steps will cause your sides to split."

Known for its hilarious musical skits of Capitol Hill personalities and current events, the Capitol Steps takes full advantage of the humor in this election season; not for the faint of heart or those considering a run for office.

A pre-show talk will be led by Nancy Finken, network manager with Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Radio. The 7 p.m. talk, free to ticket holders, is in the Lied Center's Steinhart Room.
