Sixth annual Dia de los Muertos at the Sheldon Museum of Art Oct. 28

Lincoln, Neb., October 17th, 2012 —

            The Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will celebrate its sixth annual Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 28 at the museum, 12th and R streets.

            The event is free and open to the public. Entertainment for the afternoon includes music by Los Villanos; the play "Los Zapatos Magicos"/"Pedro's Magic Shoes" by Ric Averill, performed by students from the Lincoln High School Theater Department; and folkloric dance by Sangre Azteca. Additionally, there will be a community ofrenda, art-making stations, traditional foods, and a silent auction.

            The event is a collaboration of the Sheldon, Sheldon Art Association, Dia de los Muertos Community Advisory Committee, Nebraska Latino American Commission, Lincoln Public Schools and Mourning Hope, with generous support from Southeast Community College, Ameritas, BlueCross BlueShield Nebraska and Lincoln Benefit Life.

            Sheldon Museum of Art houses a permanent collection of more than 12,000 objects focusing on American art. It is open free to the public during regular hours: Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.; closed on Monday.
