Thirteen outstanding University of Nebraska-Lincoln students were recognized for their commitment to character as defined by their peers at a reception sponsored by the Center for Civic Engagement late last month. They were named to the inaugural "Franco's List," named by students for Juan Franco, vice chancellor for student affairs at UNL.

During the 2010-11 academic year, undergraduate students were asked to define what they agreed to be the essential building blocks of integrity: citizenship, dependability, commitment, respect, open-mindedness and care. The findings were used by a committee of students and staff to develop the “Show Your Red”campaign, a campus program that seeks to recognize students for displaying integrity and acting in ways that promote good character on campus.

Students who attain the highest level of academic achievement are traditionally recognized by their academic dean through the "Dean's List." Similarly, "Franco's List" recognizes students who were nominated and selected as outstanding agents for the Show Your Red campaign and its six building blocks.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to acknowledge students who consistently demonstrate a commitment to living a life of honesty and strong moral character by completing the nomination form posted on the Show Your Red website, http://engage.unl.edu/show-your-red. Selected students will be recognized on a semi-annual basis.

The following students are the first to be acknowledged, through Franco’s List, as students of integrity:

            Aurora: Alex Goltz.

            Bellevue: Lisa Varney.

            Gretna: Jacquelyn Stiles.

            Kansas City, Mo.: LeRoy Ford.

Lincoln: Stacey Cleveland, Sarah Lewis, Jason Lucht, Dan Sahn.

            Malvern, Pa.: Sean O'Brien.

            Norfolk: Emily Schuckman.

Omaha: Kassandra Jordan, Emily Martinez, Mike Mumaugh.
