UNL students, faculty honored for outstanding graduate education

            The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Office of Graduate Studies presented 12 awards for outstanding graduate education at its annual Graduate Studies Awards Reception last month.

            The award winners, with their academic disciplines and hometowns, are:

            Lowe R. and Mavis M. Folsom Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Awards -- Juan Colon, electrical engineering, San Lorenzo, Puerto, Rico; Christopher Goodrich, mathematics, Omaha.

            Lowe R. and Mavis M. Folsom Distinguished Master's Thesis Awards -- Amy Colgrove, child, youth and family studies, Naperville, Ill.; Kaci Nash, history, Omaha; Elizabeth Straley, sociology, Omaha; Tyler Wortman, mechanical engineering, Grand Island.

            Outstanding Graduate Research Assistant Awards -- Jill Allen, psychology, Dysart, Iowa; Haidong Lu, physics and astronomy, Zhejiang, China.

            Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards -- Bobbi Jo Olson, English, Madison, S.D.; Ted Paterson, management, Gardnerville, Nev.

            Dean's Awards for Excellence in Graduate Education -- Kimberly Tyler, professor of sociology, and Yan Xia, associate professor in child, youth and family studies.
