Balaram to discuss natural dyes Dec. 6 at UNL

Lincoln, Neb., November 20th, 2013 —

            Padmini Balaram, a visiting Fulbright-Nehru lecturer in textiles at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will speak about natural dyes on Dec. 6 at UNL.

            Her lecture is free and open to the public and begins at 11 a.m. in Room 11 of Home Economics Building on 35th Street north of East Campus Loop.

            A professor of design at Silpa-Sadana, Sriniketan, Visva-Bharati University in West Bengal, India, Balaram will talk about her eco-friendly natural dyed textiles and her inspirations in creating them. She will also talk about their possible use and advantages of using them. Examples some of her actual works will be displayed.

            The talk coincides with a UNL class in surface design on textiles that she teaches with Wendy Weiss, professor of textiles, merchandising and fashion design. Balaram is a visiting lecturer in the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design in the College of Education and Human Sciences.
