Sue Burzynski Bullard, an associate professor of journalism at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will go to India this month to teach a series of journalism workshops.

Bullard is part of a seven-person team assembled by the Poynter Institute, internationally known for its journalism training programs, to conduct the workshops for Indian editors and journalism educators.

Bullard is one of only two university educators on the team, which includes editors, media executives and Poynter representatives. The training program, Strengthening Journalism: Poynter Collaborative Learning Workshops, will focus on credibility, digital tools, citizen journalism and the changing nature of journalism education.

The workshops will be held in three states in southern India for three days each from March 19-March 29. Poynter is partnering with The Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media in Bangalore; the Kerala Press Academy in Kochi; and M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women in Chennai.

Howard Finberg, director of training partnerships with journalists and journalism training organizations worldwide, said, "Poynter views this project as a great opportunity to develop long-lasting and sustainable training partnerships with journalists and journalism training organizations worldwide."

The aim of the workshops is to improve professional practices in journalism at media organizations and work with educators to tackle common challenges so schools can adapt their curricula to best prepare tomorrow’s journalist.

Bullard is an award-winning professional journalist and educator who has been a faculty member in the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications since 2008. She is the author of "Everybody's an Editor, Navigating Journalism's Changing Landscape," an e-textbook published in 2011. Bullard earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Michigan State University and a master's in administration from Central Michigan University. Before entering academia, she had a variety of editing positions during 21 years at the Detroit News, including three years as managing editor.
