UNL's Brianna Foster selected for national journalism fellowship

            Brianna Foster, a senior broadcasting journalism and news-editorial major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is among a select group of students chosen for a fellowship program to increase diversity in the broadcast news industry.

            The Capitol Broadcasting Co.'s WRAL-TV, an ABC affiliate in Raleigh, N.C., and the University of North Carolina will work with only 12 top students who are finishing their programs and pursuing broadcast careers as reporters, videographers, editors, producers or directors.

            This year’s CBC-UNC Diversity Fellowship Program runs March 12-16.

            The fellows will have the opportunity to produce reports and newscasts in WRAL-TV's state-of-the-art facility, create clips for their professional reels and make invaluable industry contacts.

            The highly competitive fellowship includes a stipend to cover travel, meal and lodging expenses while they participate in the program.

            A native of Omaha, Foster is a first-generation student. She is an ambassador for Collegebound Nebraska, an organization that ensures Nebraska students have access to the tools they need to make higher education a reality.

            She is a member of Cather Circle, the National Association of Black Journalists, the University Program Council and the W.E.B. Du Bois Honor Society executive board.

            Foster will graduate in May.
