5 UNL students share $9,500 in Omaha Press Club Foundation scholarships

            Five students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications will be awarded $9,500 in scholarships by the Omaha Press Club Foundation.

            Tiffany U-Lynn Chin, a junior broadcasting production major from Subang Jaya, Malaysia, will be given a $2,500 John F. Davis Scholarship. An intern at Channel 8 KLKN-TV in Lincoln, Chin has made Dean's List for four consecutive semesters. Her academic concentrations include English, communication studies and history. Chin's parents are Chin Fook Khiang and Sally Cheah of Subang Jaya.

            Hannah Juracek, a junior advertising and public relations major from Omaha, will be awarded a $1,500 Panko-Roberts/President's Memorial Scholarship. A digital marketing intern at EcSell Institute, Juracek has made Dean's List every semester. She earned the Susan Buffett Scholarship and the Nebraska Achievement Scholarship, and is a University of Nebraska High Scholar and a William H. Thompson Scholar. Her mother is Lynne Juracek of Omaha.

            Mara Klecker, a sophomore journalism major from Sioux Falls, S.D., will be given a $1,500 Floyd Kalber Scholarship. Klecker, who will begin a yearlong internship at the Lincoln Journal Star in May, was inducted as a freshman in the Cather Circle in late 2012. She was named an International Leo of the Year by the Lions Club, is a Multiple Sclerosis Society Top Scholar and serves as a reporter for the Daily Nebraskan, the UNL student newspaper. Her parents are Daniel and Marcia Klecker of Sioux Falls.

            Alex Meyer, a junior advertising major from Austin, Texas, will be awarded a $2,500 John F. Davis Scholarship. Meyer, a media buyer for the 2014 National Student Advertising Competition, has made Dean's List for four semesters and is president of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She is minoring in psychology, communication and English. Her parents are Kevin and Shawna Meyer of Austin.

            Flora Zempleni, a sophomore global studies and journalism major from Lincoln, will be given a $1,500 Paul N. Williams Scholarship. A copy editor at the Daily Nebraskan, Zempleni has interned with ZDF and the Auslandsjournal program in Germany and will intern this summer at SWR in Germany. She is a Dean's List student and is a Regents Scholar.

            The scholarships and awards will be presented at an April 25 dinner at the Omaha Press Club.
