Grammy-winning folk singer Ani DiFranco at Lied Center Oct. 20

            Grammy-winning folk singer/songwriter Ani DiFranco, who has written hundreds of songs, played thousands of shows, captured the imaginations of legions of followers and jammed with folkies, orchestras, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, jazz musicians, poets and pop superstars will perform a solo show at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Lied Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20.

            "Ani's music is honest, provocative, experimental and often fiercely political blending soul, funk, jazz, electronica and spoken word," said Bill Stephan, executive director of the Lied Center. "On Oct. 20, she will join a long list of world renowned folk singers who have graced the Lied Center stage over the past 25 years. We were so thrilled that Ani was able to fit a visit to Lincoln into her extremely busy international touring schedule, particularly right before the release of a new album."

            After 20 years in the music biz, the self-described "Little Folksinger" is still technically little, although her influence on fellow musicians, activists, and indie-minded people has been huge. Over the course of more than 20 albums, DiFranco has never stopped evolving, experimenting and testing the limits of what can be said and sung. Her lifelong tribe of co-conspirators includes everyone from Pete Seeger and Utah Phillips to a new generation of 20-something singer-songwriters who grew up with her songs and shows. She has also collaborated with the likes of Prince, Maceo Parker, Andrew Bird, Dr. John, Arto Lindsay, Bruce Springsteen, Chuck D, the Buffalo Philharmonic, Gillian Welch, Cyndi Lauper and even Burmese activist and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.
